Begin with what you have, do not wait for the world to change; do not wait for the conditions to change; begin where you are with what you have.
A villager lived with his family on his one acre farm near a river. All that he and his family needed came to him from the one acre farm, and he lived a life of happiness and contentment until one day he was visited by a traveller from far-off land, who sought his hospitality for the night. The visitor told the farmer that he was on his way to a prospect for diamonds so that he could make a fortune.
Our simple farmer had never heard or seen a diamond and also didn’t know about its worth, wondered what the visitor said. The visitor explained him what the diamond was. He also told that they are mined from earth where molten rocky mass has been buried since centuries. He also told him how precious diamond was. He said if you have a diamond the size of your thumb you could buy this valley; if you have diamond the size of your fist you could buy whole province etc.
That night the farmer went to bed discontented, unhappy and feeling poor and deprived for the first time in his life. The story goes that the farmer sold his farm, put his family under the care of his relatives and went out prospecting for diamonds; and travelled all the way across Asia minor to Spain and then to Africa. But he never found what he was looking for and never ever returned home.
The farm had been bought by a young villager who worked hard tilling the soil to feed his family & earn a living. On day while tilling he found a hard shining rock by the side of the river in his field. He liked the unusual glitter and the hardness of the rock and kept a piece on his table as a showpiece.
History repeated itself and the same old visitor came to same old farm seeking shelter in the night. He saw the rock on the table and his eyes lit up. Being an honest man he told the young farmer , “the rock you are having there is a diamond and is worth a fortune. Where did you find it?”. Next day the farmer took the man to the field next to the river and they discovered a small diamond mine on the same acre of land. The diamonds had been there for hundreds of years, yet the earlier farmer died while searching for them elsewhere without realising what HE HAD.
Thus begin with what you have; do not go out chasing after non-existing rainbows! The Self resides within us and is the source of Bliss and permanent happiness; so never go out chasing what appears as happiness.
