Most people say they are afraid of love, because you often get hurt in love.
Nothing could be further from the truth. Love is a giving, an unconditional giving. You do not know why, but you simply give. An example would be a mother's love for her child.
Love is a subject of the heart and not the mind and therefore defies explanation. Love is not logical, it cannot be. That is why all sane people who we describe as normal rarely experience love. You have to be a bit foolish and a lot more innocent to experience love. Love cannot hurt, but unfulfilled expectations can cause much unhappiness. Love is probably the greatest feeling one can experience, it is beautiful, no, it's exhilarating. If this is so, you will ask, "Then why does love pass me by?
We are programmed by society to protect ourselves by never letting our guard down. If we do not let our guard down, how can we give or receive love?
Our disappointment with 'Love' can be attributed to two reasons, trading and possessiveness. Most of us are selfish always seeking something in return for anything we give. it could be called trading. When we give affection and 'love' expecting something in return, it cannot be called love, because it's a deal. Deals are transactional and generally unsatisfying.
Another aspect that ruins love, is our possessiveness. The greatest disappointment in life appears to be unreciprocated love or our inability to possess the object or person of our love. We want to possess the person we 'love', in fact we want to consume them. I love you so you have got to love me. You cannot look or talk to, leave alone love someone else. I 'love' therefore you belong to me, alone. This possessiveness leads us to do strange things and demand often impossible and unsustainable loyalties.
Anyone worth possessing, simply cannot be possessed. What would happen if you took a beautiful flower and closed it into a box? The flower would wither and die very quickly. Love is a gift, and if it is true, seeks nothing in return
Be like the sun radiate, give energy and bring life to all you see and meet and expect nothing in return. If you do this you shall transcend from an orbiting planet to a star, from a man to a God.
