We are part of a creation that has inherent property of CHANGE. The movement is either upward or downward, whether in spiritual or commercial matters. Nothing is ever constant or unchanging. No matter what is your position, how much power & influence you wield, NOTHING is constant. What goes up has to come down.
An average individual does not know what lies beyond the physical world & is so engrossed in the pursuit of the senses & collection of wealth & fame. Further he does not want to understand or know that all will go away due to their inherent nature of non-permanency. He might search for a Guru in the hope that what is temporary can be somehow made permanent. One forgets that Guru’s own body is not permanent, and a true Guru would already be following principle of detachment from all worldly (non-permanent), articles, then how he can adopt a different principle for the devotee. So to look for permanency from something non-permanent is most foolish.
The purpose of human birth is to experience and go beyond the higher states of consciousness. This is helped by the guru who has overcome the bondages of Maya, & shows you the reality & futility of the physical world. He plants the seed of detachment in you; but to grow and nurture the seed is upto you. Detachment is the state when you are prepared to let go whatever is with you without any regret, whether you get something better or not. Only when you attain a state of detachment irrespective of whether you get something in return, you attain Vairagaya Yoga.
Even if you rise up to the abode of Gods (Swarglok/ Devlok), thereafter begins descent, for what rises has to come down. After pleasure pain has to come. It is only the detachment from pleasure which will nullify the effect from pain and this state of Vairagya will effectuate your merger with the Creator.
