“Bereft of the grace earned through the service of the Holy One, the impure mind-stuff remains restless as the wind.” - Yoga Vashista
Vashista is referring to the ego mind – a bundle of thoughts that we call “my” mind. All our thoughts put together are called Mind, and that is ever restless. Why? Because it is not working in Grace, which can only be found through coming in contact with the Holy Ones who have gone beyond this mind, beyond this little “me”. It is very seldom that we have the privilege to be with a Holy One, a Christ, a Buddha, a Krishna. At the base of the pyramid many may stand, but at the top there is space only for one. Lord Krishna said, “Thousand come to me and one perchance may come INTO me.”
We are able, however, to meet the Holy One through their words in the scriptures. If we do not study them, we are without grace. If we do not put the words of the Masters into practice in our daily lives, we are keeping the inner door closed. We are interested only in the “me” and the “my”, living in our thoughts, the mind stuff.
What are our thoughts? We will see that the whole of our life is lived in the lower mind and that all thoughts of the present moment are reactions to something outside ourselves, affected by the past or the future. Can we sit and meditate on these reactions and uncover where they come from? We are living in this ego mind, using a collection of our past experiences, stored in the subconscious mind.
Become a witness, watch the dancing ego – and move into the Beloved Presence.
