An adwoman, who was a successful executive, was one day walking down the street. All of a sudden she was hit by a bus and she died on the spot. Her soul arrived in heaven where she was met at the Pearly Gates by St Peter himself.
“Welcome to heaven,” said he. “But it seems we have a problem; we have never had an executive make this far. We will let you spend one day in hell and one day in heaven and then you can choose whichever one you want to spend the eternity in.”
St Peter put the executive in the elevator and it went down to hell. The doors opened and she found herself stepping out on to a beautiful golf course. In the distance was a country club and standing in front of her were her fellow executives all dressed in the evening gowns and cheering for her. They played an
excellent round of golf and at night went to country club where she enjoyed steak and lobster dinner. She met the Devil who was a real nice guy telling jokes and dancing. She was having such a good time that before she knew it was time to leave.
The elevator went up, and opened at the Pearly Gates and the executive found St Peter waiting for her. “Now it is time to spend a day in heaven”’ he told her. She spent the next 24 hours singing playing the harp. She had a great time and before she knew her 24 hours were up. St Peters came gain and said,” you have spent a day in hell and one day in heaven. Now you must choose your eternity.” She replied, “Heaven was really great but I think I had a better time in hell.”
So St Peter escorted her back to the elevator and back to hell. When the door opened she found herself standing in a desolate wasteland, full of filth. Her friends were dressed in rags and putting garbage in sacks. She said, “I don’t understand, yesterday I was here and there was a golf course and a country club and we had a great time. Now there is wasteland and garbage; my friends look miserable.”
The Devil looked at her and smiled, “Yesterday we were recruiting you, today you are staff”. In our lives also whatever appears attractive and nice apparently, may not really be good for long run. Similarly, any gains achieved by unfair means, cheating, falsifying various factors, will also be short-lived and with mental tensions about possible consequences, & are generally associated with sad endings. But achieving on truthful basis may appear tough in the beginning, but will have lasting peace of mind and happiness.
