Grief and delusion come as a result of identification with body, mind and intellect – the little ‘i’. The moment you look at things from a personal angle there is sorrow. View the same thing from a larger perspective and peace prevails.
In Bhagwad Geeta the grief-stricken Arjuna lays down his bow and arrow and refuses to fight. He surrenders to Krishna and says, “I am your disciple, please guide me.” Arjuna is now ready for Krishna’s counsel. Krishna does not comfort Arjuna but speaks the truth. “Arjuna, you speak words of wisdom but you mourn for those that should not be mourned for. The wise grieve neither for the living nor the dead.” In the second chapter Krishna presents the highest knowledge of indestructibility of the soul.
Atman, the real you, never dies. Even the mind and the intellect do not perish. All that happens at death is that you leave behind the body and the environment and move to another body and circumstances that are possibly more suited for the desires left over. Just as a man gives up tattered clothes to don new ones, so too death is the movement to the next phase of the life’s journey.
The world is a roller-coaster ride & is in a constant churn. It is a mix of pairs of opposites and is unpredictable. It is our duty to act according to dharma to get permanent relief. As a Kshatriya there is nothing more sacred than a righteous cause. You are in a fortunate situation that either way is a win-win situation. If victorious you will gain the kingdom & if you die you will attain heaven. So get rid of your fears and apprehensions. Perform action whole-heartedly with sincerity and dedication and success will follow. Work well done is in itself joyous. Action consecrated to higher ideal is worship. You evolve spiritually.
We are all warriors in the battle of life. Each one of us has obligation to perform. Do what you have to do without attachment. Your right is to action only and not to the fruits thereof. When free from attachment & anxiety of fruit, the mind remains calm & the intellect sharp & clear. Hence chances of success are higher. Yet, in any case the spiritual growth is definite. With this approach one will ultimately progress to become free from the cycle of birth and death.
