The three Dharmic obligations are: Bhoutik dharma or worldly obligations, fulfilled thru the body; Mano dharma – fulfilled thru the mind and intellect and Atma Dharma that activates and empowers the soul.
Value the body: We normally value the body for its beauty, health, youth, charm and usefulness without realizing that body carries out innumerable life-sustaining activities without our effort. The heart beats 86400 times, the lungs breathe 21,600 times every day. All this is possible due to the inexhaustible power called the ‘Soul’ enshrined in the body. When we are aware of this sacred energy we will never misuse it to perform actions which are harmful, demonic or destructive in nature.
Process the mind: We should check every thought and emotion to check whether it falls in the framework of righteousness with great objectivity. Chanting Aum energizes the mind and transforms it into an impartial witness. The kshirasagara, the ocean of milk, was churned to obtain the nectar of immortality. Here the ocean is the mind and ‘Aum’ (from which the whole universe is created) is the Churner. The good thoughts, dharma, represent the Gods and the bad thoughts, a dharma, represent the demons. By churning, i.e. by chanting ‘Aum’ everyday for at least 30 minutes cleansing of the mind begins and the negativity within is thrown out.
Eliminate Negativity: As we continue chanting Aum, with total faith, & devotion, all negative thoughts, tendencies, & feelings accumulated over many lifetimes rise to the surface and are eliminated with the Grace of the Guru, and our intellect, concentration, become razor sharp. We make quick and more accurate decisions and get more absorbed in the sadhana.
Thus we immerse completely in sadhana and transcend our senses and the mind blossoms and the heart expands to embrace all beings. Then we develop selflessness leading to Self-Realisation.
